Your Slice Shade is a handmade piece, crafted with care and built to last. With a little attention, it will stay beautiful for years. Here is everything you need to know to keep it looking its best.

Regular Maintenance

Dusting: Simply use a clean, dry lint roller or a soft-bristled clothes brush to gently sweep down the stripes in the direction of the yarn.

Vacuuming: Alternatively, you can use the small upholstery brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner on its lowest suction setting. Always brush or vacuum vertically, following the line of the wrapping.

Spills & Spot Cleaning

Keep Dry: Do not submerge your lampshade in water or use harsh chemical cleaners, as this can damage the textile fibres or cause the frame underneath to rust.

Spot Cleaning: For minor marks, gently dab the area with a clean, slightly damp microfibre cloth. Do not rub or scrub, as this can fray the yarn or disturb the tension of the stripes. Allow it to air dry completely before turning the light back on.

Environmental Safety

Sunlight Exposure: Like any premium textile, prolonged exposure to direct, intense sunlight can cause the colours to fade over time. Position your lamps or pendants away from strong, consistent UV light where possible.

Moisture: Avoid placing your shades in high-humidity areas, such as bathrooms or damp kitchens, to protect both the metal frame and the yarn fibres.

Bulb Safety & Heat

LED Only: Always use low-energy, cool-to-the-touch LED bulbs (maximum 40W equivalent). Standard incandescent bulbs emit high levels of heat that can degrade and discolour the textiles over time.

Fire Retardant: While every shade is treated with a premium fire-retardant spray before leaving the studio, using the correct cool-running bulb is the best way to ensure the longevity and safety of your piece.

Moving & Handling

When moving your shade, always lift it carefully by the internal metal utility ring rather than gripping the wrapped exterior. This keeps the yarn tension perfectly intact.
